Inauguration of IMT, Hyderabad

I went to the inauguration of the new IMT (Institute of Management Technology) at Hyderabad, yesterday, accompanying Dr. Rajendra Nargundkar who is the Director of IMT, Nagpur. IMT is a well-known brand in business schools in India and one that is growing rapidly in the past few years. Known mostly for the original institute, IMT, Ghaziabad, which has been one of the earliest business schools, set up over 30 years ago, IMT has now set up campuses in Dubai, Nagpur and now, Hyderabad. The group of institutions is promoted by Mr. Kamalnath, Union Minister for Urban Development.

The Hyderabad campus is quite large, set in 38 acres, in a lush, sylvan environment, and in the Shamshabad area that is as yet not populated with any kind of commercial activity. One has to go past the Shamshabad airport on the Bengaluru highway, maybe about 8-9 kms, take a turn to the left and go on for another 7 kms, to the impressive IMT campus. The whole area was very green, totally devoid of all construction activity that one normally gets to see around Hyderabad and gives the students a great environment to focus on their academics.

The Chief Guest of the evening was Mr. Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for HRD, Communications and IT and he was accompanied by Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh who presided over the function. Others on the dais were Mr. Kamalnath, Mrs. Sabitha Indra Reddy, Home Minister, Andhra Pradesh and Mr. Pandu Ranga Rao, Director of IMT, Hyderabad. After the lamp lighting and welcome speech by the Director of the new campus, the dignitaries spoke before we all dispersed.

IMT joins an impressive list of educational institutions, especially business schools that are setting up campuses in Hyderabad. Narsee Monjee Institute, a famous brand from Mumbai is setting up a campus, Gitam from Vizag is already here, Guru Nanak Institute of Management Studies and other known names join ISB, the biggest brand in Hyderabad yet. Maybe Hyderabad could well be the educational hub for management schools as well, what with an impressive list of MNCs and other work-related opportunities here!
